  • Communications

  • Diversity and Inclusion

  • Social Justice

Communications Intern

The Communications Intern would assist the Senator in monitoring media coverage, drafting op-eds and responding to press inquiries. The Intern would also provide social media support by managing the Senator's Facebook and Twitter accounts and manage the Senator's constituent outreach efforts.

Diversity and Inclusion Policy Intern

The Diversity and Inclusion Policy Intern will be responsible for working on the Senator's diversity-focused legislative initiatives. Currently, that includes legislation to ban discrimination based on certain hairstyles in schools and at work, as well as legislation that will modernize our state's HIV laws.  This internship will include meeting with stakeholders, researching policy issues, and monitoring Nevada's HIV Modernization Task Force. A strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and understanding is required.

Education Policy Intern

As a Nevada native, educated in the State's largest school district, Senator Harris cares deeply about education. Nevada has a history of ranking at the bottom amongst states in the nation when it comes to education. Its time to change that. Senator Harris is seeking an education intern who will research best practices around the world in education and work to bring those solutions to the State of Nevada.  The ideal candidate will have strong research capabilities as well as a desire to ensure that every child in Nevada has the opportunity to receive a quality public education.

Finance Intern

Nevada has a unique way of funding the State's operations. The Finance intern will research progressive funding mechanisms, examine the mining tax structure, and follow the Interim Finance Committee. In addition, the incumbent will provide written and oral briefings to the Senator on financial issues. The ideal candidate is already studying finance, business, policy analysis, or a related field.

Legal Intern

Senator Harris served as Vice-Chair of the Judiciary Committee and currently serves as the Chair of the Committee to Conduct an Interim Study of Issues Relating to Pretrial Release of Defendants in Criminal Cases. The Legal Intern will research a variety of policy issues including bail reform and the relationship between the Judiciary and the Legislature. This internship is only available to law students.

Social Justice Intern

There is no longer a question about whether we need criminal justice and policing reform in this country, only what that reform should look like. The Social Justice Intern will build upon the success of AB3 from the 32nd Legislative Session by building bringing together stakeholders to find practical, bold, consensus reforms that will make a huge difference in the lives of everyday Nevadans. The ideal candidate will be passionate about stomping out disparities in the criminal justice system, policing, and health care. In addition, the intern will work to develop legislation that Senator Harris can sponsor in the upcoming Legislative Session.
